Jar of pink sugar scrub next to a faucet, 50, Fabulous & Finally Free

Loving Yourself

Peppermint Sugar Scrub

The best part about this scrub is that it leaves your skin moisturized and clean, and during the cold winter months can easily become a weekly addition to your skin care regimen. I use the same base for my scrub year round and just alter the essential oil or natural ingredients I add, depending on the season. Something about peppermint and candy canes makes me love having that smell on my skin as I go to sleep!

Directions:

Use a large bowl to combine ingredients (preferably a metal bowl as plastic sometimes will absorb some of the oil out of your mixture).

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 cup coconut oil (not completely melted but slightly softened – I usually put mine in the microwave for 5-10 seconds.

  • 5-9 drops essential oil (we used spearmint for the scrub pictured)

  • 1-2 drops food coloring or candy / icing colors

First, measure your sugar into the bowl, then slowly add the coconut oil, mix with your hands and a plastic spoon to make sure it is well blended. Depending on if you’d like your scrub to be smoother or dryer, you can add more oil or less as you go. Make sure the consistency works for you!

Second add essential oil until you feel like the aroma is exactly how you’d like to smell after you’re done using the scrub. I normally add 5-7 drops but this is an area of personal preference. Blend the mix together thoroughly then slowly add food coloring – keep mixing until you’ve achieved the color you like.

Store in a sealed container (glass jars are preferable). Unsealed this scrub will be good for about 2 weeks, but sealed you can keep it for up to 6 weeks.

This makes a wonderful home-made gift to give to your friends. Wrap a pretty bow around the jar and attach an encouraging note.

Loving Your Skin

Glo Pro:

A gift for your face!

Micro-needling is something that I have heard about for years and even tried a few years ago after buying a session on Groupon. Honestly, I really didn’t notice a difference. Last year, on a whim I decided to try it again after seeing the "Glo Pro" mentioned in a magazine. I was skeptical, but I figured I would try it and return it if I didn’t notice a change. After using it for a few weeks, I went in for a facial. My regular esthetician asked, “What are you doing different? Your skin looks amazing!” I told her and she mentioned that she had wanted to try it herself. Later that week, I took a trip with the girls and again, I was asked, “What have you done? Your skin looks great.” I am now a fan! My face gets a bit red after use, which I do not mind and if I work out the following morning, I do notice a bit of tingling when I sweat. I don’t love that, but that tells me that it is working! I use it 3 times a week at night, putting on various serums within seconds of finishing the 1-minute needling session. I also make sure that I spray the head with alcohol immediately as well. I am a Germaphobe!

Don't forget to take care of yourself! Ask Santa for this or if you're like me, you might have to buy it and put it under the tree! Nordstrom has a limited edition "Rose Gold" version for the holidays!

Domino Game, 50, fabulous & finally free

Loving Family Time

Mexican Train is a domino game that my family loves to play (actually my kids may dispute that when I have forced them to play 13 games in a row) but seriously we have so much fun with this game.

You can buy the game at most stores (Target etc.) or online, we play without keeping score (too much work) instead putting coins in a pot every round with the winner taking all each round! We have also played with candy instead of coins – anything works!

The fun part about this game is that it spans a wide age range so everyone can be a part of the fun.
